What is the focus of OPCC?

We are a community chorus dedicated to a high level of musical artistry. We perform two concerts a year emphasizing music in the classical a cappella tradition by choral composers from the 13th to the 21st centuries. Our mission includes promoting cultural enrichment in our region, supporting efforts in the broad field of music education, and premiering works by local composers. Current work to further this mission includes joint performances with area ensembles, ensuring a more widely representative canon of composers and works, and exploring the many ways in which the power of music may lead to a greater sense of community.

Who sings in OPCC?

We have singers from throughout the Chicago area, of all ages from post-high-school on up. Some of us have extensive experience singing in choruses or musicals, while others just enjoy singing. The ability to read music is important. We are a diverse group of singers who enjoy differences in age, ethnicity, and culture. Membership, subject to successful audition, is open to all people regardless of race, color, creed religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, and veteran status.

When do you rehearse?

We rehearse Tuesdays from 7:30pm to 9:15pm at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 611 Randolph St. (corner of Randolph and East), Oak Park, IL. The church does not have a parking lot; parking is on the residential streets. There is wheel-chair access off of Randolph St., with the main entrance off of East Ave. From the Eisenhower Expressway take the Harlem Ave. exit and turn north, turn east on Madison St., turn north on Oak Park Ave., turn east on Randolph St. until you reach East Ave. Seasons are divided into two semesters, Fall and Spring.
